How to read the table

Sizes are width × height in millimetres, as each authority states them. Where an authority gives a range or a minimum, the table shows the range.

Pixels at 300 DPI is calculated, not quoted: it is the pixel size that prints at the stated size at 300 dots per inch. Where an authority sets its own pixel size for online applications, that figure is in the Digital photo column, and it takes priority.

"Unedited photo required" means the cited page says the photo must not be altered, edited, retouched or composited. "Not specified" means the cited page does not say either way.

Schengen visa photos follow the rules of the consulate you apply to. Check that consulate's checklist rather than a general EU size.

Make a photo with a white, blue or red background

Cutout.Free's ID photo tool removes the background from a portrait and puts a plain colour behind it. It is useful for forms that accept your own digital photo and do not forbid edits, and for checking framing before a studio session.

  1. Upload a portrait

Use a sharp, front-facing photo with even light and space around your head. The tool removes the original background.

  2. Pick a colour

Choose white, blue or red, or pick a custom colour such as light grey or cream to match the rule you are following.

  3. Choose a size and frame

    Presets cover 25 × 35, 35 × 45, 35 × 49 and 50 × 50 mm at 300 DPI. Move and scale the portrait so the head height matches the table.

  4. Download

Save a JPG or PNG at the pixel size shown. Print it on photo paper at that size, or upload it where a digital photo is accepted.
